Ristorante Do Forni Venezia

Do Forni restaurant: History and Tradition in the Heart of Venice since 1800

In the golden age of the Most Serene Republic, this place was already alive and busy: here stood the oven that every day baked bread and pastries for the nearby convent of San Zaccaria, just steps from the Doge's Palace.

Beside the oven, a small osteria welcomed Venetians with its cicchetti, following that tradition of simple, authentic conviviality that has always belonged to the city.

The Spaces have a story to tell...

The spaces tell all of this with the same elegance. The Venetian dining room is intimate and refined, enveloped in a traditional atmosphere evoking centuries of history. The other soul of the restaurant looks outward to the world: the salons faithfully reproducing the Orient Express restaurant car take guests on a journey through time, between the luxury of a bygone era and timeless charm.

Eligio Paties

With the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797, the oven premises changed their purpose and merged with the osteria, expanding it. Thus was born, in the 19th century, the restaurant that still bears the name of its origin today: Do Forni, the two ovens.

Since 1973 the restaurant has been entrusted to the care of Eligio Paties, a man of great passion and vision. For him, cooking has never been merely a profession, but a form of culture, and hospitality an art to be practised with daily dedication. It is thanks to this philosophy that Do Forni restaurant has become, over time, a coveted destination for all who come to Venice wishing to be received according to the city's most noble traditions.

Do Forni International Graphic Art Prize

Since 1986 Ristorante Do Forni in Venice has revived the historic tradition of "art restaurants", establishing the Do Forni International Graphic Art Prize. The aim of this award is to celebrate and promote excellence in artistic printmaking, conferring each year a prize on two artists - one Italyn and one international - selected from a shortlist of twenty guests.

The award ceremony takes place within the city's cultural context, and the works of the winners of all editions are permanently displayed in the restaurant's premises as a testament to the long history of the prize.
